Es Molí, the Mill ...

... behind the name "Es Molí" there is a story. A portion of the hotel you see today was once the residence of the family Marroig des Molí. You can still find traces of this in the hotel bar. The mill in the grounds had its own spring; today this spring feeds our swimming pool and provides for a special micro climate in our gardens that, in particular, allows rare plant species to thrive there.

Deià and the Arts ...

... Deià is situated in the northwestern corner of Majorca. The ruggedly romantic coast has been a popular destination for more than 2000 years: Phoenicians, Romans, and Moors have all stepped onto the shores of this part of the island.

In the 19th century the environs of Deià were then introduced to Europe through none other than Frédéric Chopin and George Sand.

The book "A Winter in Majorca" was written after their stay in 1838/39 in the Carthusian Monastery, Real Cartuja de Valldemossa. Chopin composed his "24 Préludes" (op. 28) here.

A short time later the Archduke of Austria, Louis Salvador, resided here. His guests over a period of 30 years are legendary: The Empress Elizabeth of Austria (Sissi) often stayed here to escape from the doldrums of the daily life of the Austrian-Hungarian double monarchy.

The village is long accustomed to playing host to famous guests: Robert Graves ("I Claudius", and "Claudius the God") lived here. Ava Gardner, Alec Guinness, Peter Ustinov, Stephen Hawking, and many others found material in and around Deià inspirational.

Even today numerous artists still live here, enchanted and inspired by the Majorcan hospitality and the beautiful coastal region of the Mediterranean.
